Hello, and welcome to my personal blog. My name is John Spangler; I live in Versailles, Kentucky, where since June 2010 I have been growing miniature hostas in my garden, along with some of their larger siblings in deck containers. I am a member of The American Hosta Society and the Greater Cincinnati Daylily-Hosta Society and have been accredited by the AHS as a provisional hosta show judge.

In addition to observations on my own hosta garden and links to numerous hosta-related websites, this blog will include occasional posts on other interests of mine. I hope that you find something interesting and useful here and encourage you to grow hostas, the Friendship Plant -- particularly miniature hostas. Good things do come in small packages!

My ONE HUNDREDTH Hosta Variety -- H. 'Neutrino'.

I am in Indianapolis, Indiana, for a long weekend of hosta hunting and some sightseeing as well. Yesterday I acquired the one hundredth hosta variety for my collection, a specimen of H. 'Neutrino', (M. Zilis, 2011), at Soules Garden. Here's a picture of the new addition, a charmer if there ever was one --

(By clicking on this hosta picture, you can view a larger, clearer version of it in a new window.)

It was a treat to spend some more time at Soules; a vanload of us from Hostas of Kentuckiana had made a visit there (and to Randy Goodwin's awesome garden) on a day trip in July. Also picked up a very cute and very colorful specimen of Sedum cauticola 'Lidakense', which joins my only other sedum, Hylotelephium telephium 'Matrona', in my garden.

Here then is the current breakdown of my 100 hosta varieties:

57 varieties of AHS-registered miniature-leaved hostas, 58 plants
25 varieties of AHS-registered small-leaved hostas, 26 plants
7 AHS-registered medium-leaved hostas, 7 plants
3 AHS-registered large-leaved hostas, 3 plants
0 AHS-registered giant-leaved hostas, 0 plants
3 AHS-unregistered miniature-leaved hostas, 3 plants
4 other AHS-unregistered hostas, 4 plants
1 unknown hosta, 1 plant
totals: 100 hosta varieties, 102 hosta plants

This blog's page listing all of my hostas has not yet been updated to include recent acquisitions. (It will be soon!)

  1. “I could not have closed on my first home without Mr, Benjamin Lee ! Benjamin and his team went above and beyond for me on this transaction. He handled my very tight turn around time with ease and was always available for me when I had questions (and I had plenty), even when he was away from the office, which I greatly appreciated! He and his team handled many last-minute scrambles with the seller and worked tirelessly to make sure that I could close before my lease (and my down payment assistance, for that matter) expired. Mr Benjamin is incredibly knowledgeable Loan Officer, courteous, and patient. I went through a couple offers on properties before my final purchase and Benjamin was there to help with each one, often coordinating with my agent behind the scenes. I felt supported throughout the entire process. Thanks to Benjamin and the tireless efforts of his team, I am now a proud home owner! I would encourage you to consider Benjamin Briel Lee for any kind of loan.Mr, Benjamin Lee Contact informaions.via WhatsApp +1-989-394-3740 Email- lfdsloans@outlook.com.
